Japanese American veterans salute as the flag at the Japanese American War Memorial Court in Little Tokyo is lowered in honor of the late Min Tonai on Oct. 14. Tonai, a Korean War veteran, was instrumental in establishing the court, which honors Japanese American soldiers killed in the line of duty in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and other conflicts. Tonai passed away on Sept. 3 at the age of 94.
The children of Min Tonai receive the flag at the conclusion of the ceremony.
