Dr. Glenn T. Webb,?? ??? professor emeritus of Pepperdine University, will give a lecture on the customs and tradition of America and Japan on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1:30 p.m. at Jodoshu North America Buddhist Missions, 442 E. Third Street in Little Tokyo.
Webb, who is also academic advisor of Bukkyo University-Los Angeles Extension, will share with the audience his thoughts on how American and Japanese culture developed through centuries based on their religions, mainly Christianity and Buddhism. He is a professor of East Asian cultural and religious history and has been practicing chado (the way of tea) and Buddhist disciplines.
Mack M. Miyazaki, president of the Japanese Community Pioneer Center, will serve as commentator.
Both gentlemen were honored in 2011 by the Japanese government for their contributions to cultivating a mutual understanding between the United States and Japan.
Japanese translation of Webb’s lecture and text in both languages will be provided to the audience. Registration in advance is suggested. Admission is $15 for adults, free for students and children.
