Just after midnight, it hit a low of 48 F (8 C), but snow usually, though not always, falls when air temperatures drop below 35 F (2 C).

As pointed out by Newsweek, the White House posted the image to its official Flickr account at 11:33 pm ET on Sunday, with a caption explaining that the photo was taken photographer by Tia Dufour on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 7. The tweet did not mention a date, thus the confusion.
