MONTEBELLO —?The Monterey Park Japanese American Senior Citizens Club held its 51stannual installation and New Year’s banquet on Jan. 20 at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello.
Along with a great turnout of 190 quests, Memo Chavez, representing Langley Senior Center, presided over the installation of the incoming 2024 club officers. In addition, he presented eight members with certificates commemorating their 88thbirthday.
Janice Uba, MPJASC president, presented a certificate to the Volunteer of the Year, Susan Campbell, for her dedicated service to the club over the past year.
The guest speaker was Beverly Ito, president and CEO of Keiro, who said a few words about the new and ongoing programs Keiro has to offer senior citizens.
Uba expressed the club’s gratitude for Keiro’s sponsorship pf the event.
A highlight of the event was the entertainment provided by Bando Hidesomi’s Nihon buyo (Japanese classical dance) class. The first performer was the youngest, only 3 years old. She was so cute; hearts immediately melted. Odori performed in beautiful kimono was much appreciated by those in attendance.
