CBS on May 12 canceled “CSI: Cyber” after two seasons.
“CSI: Cyber,” which premiered in March 2015, is the fourth and shortest-lived series in the CSI franchise, following “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (2000-2015), “CSI: Miami” (2002-2012), and “CSI: New York” (2004-2013).
“CSI: Cyber” starred Patricia Arquette as Dr. Avery Ryan, who heads the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division, a team of former cyber criminals and federal agents who travel nationwide in search of the criminals who work on the “dark net.”
Haley Kiyoko played Raven Ramirez, an FBI analyst and former “black hat” hacker recruited by Ryan as part of her “hack-for-good” program. During the course of the series, Ramirez revealed that as a victim of cyber-bullying, she had turned to hacking as a refuge from her tormentors. She also started a relationship with co-worker Brody Nelson (Shad Moss), also a former hacker.
The final episode aired in March, leaving CBS without a CSI show for the first time in nearly 16 years.
In addition to her other acting credits — including Velma in the Scooby-Doo movies “The Mystery Begins” and “Curse of the Lake Monster” on the Cartoon Network, Stella Yamada in the Disney Channel film “Lemonade Mouth,” and Aja in the movie “Jem and the Holograms” — Kiyoko is a singer/songwriter, both as a solo artist and as a member of The Stunners.
The daughter of actor/comedian Jamie Alcroft and figure skater Sarah Kawahara, Kiyoko was the only Asian American series regular in the CSI franchise, although Archie Kao had a recurring role in the original “CSI,” appearing in 100 episodes as lab technician Archie Johnson.
