Back to the Futureturns 35 on Do Clothes Make the Woman?: Gender, Performance Theory and Lesbian EroticismJuly 3. And as part of the celebration, we're getting an epic crossover.
There's a new Transformers action figure coming, appropriately named Gigawatt, and its vehicle form is none other than Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown's flying DeLorean time machine. There are some fun details on this thing, so let's take a closer look.
In the image on the left, you can see that the set includes the electricity-conducting pole that Doc used to help Marty get back, uh, to the future. The image on the right, showing the back of the time-traveling car, offers a clear view of Mr. Fusion, the garbage-into-fuel machine that first appears at the end of the first movie.
Yes, the DeLorean's gull-wing doors are intact, and the action figure lets you open and close them. Once Gigawatt transforms into its robot body, you get a clear view of the Flux Capacitor and, below that, a date readout listing key moments Marty visited in the first two movies from 1985, 1955, and 2015.
Here, have a closer look.
The action figure's release will be accompanied by a comic book run from IDW in which the two famed '80s brands cross over. The story follows Marty as he evades the Decepticons, who have caught wind of Doc's time machine. But since Marty's just a puny human, he'll need some help. It comes in the form of this new Autobot, Gigawatt.
The limited series from IDW is set to run for four issues. You can check out the first issue's cover below, along with a nifty recreation of the original Back to the Futureposter, but with Gigawatt replacing Marty.
The limited edition version of Gigawatt – of which only 1,985 numbered boxes will be released – is available for pre-order on Walmart's website starting at 1:00 p.m. ET on July 2. Don't worry if you miss your chance, though; another version of Gigawatt is coming to HasbroPulse.com plus "select retailers" on Oct. 1, 2020, which is also the same day the first issue of the comic releases.
UPDATE: July 2, 2020, 11:21 a.m. EDT An earlier version of this story said that pre-orders begin on July 3. That was incorrect; July 2 is when pre-orders open.
