In the weeks leading up to the very consequential 2024 presidential election, some very patriotic student members of the student led organization known as Student Advocacy for Change (SAC) hosted a series of voter/pre-registration drives at three high schools and a library.
The co-president and co-founder of this organization, Amelia Kawaguchi, a senior at Fountain Valley High School, stated that she and the other student organizers made the decision to hold voter registration/pre-registration drives at their campuses in order to “increase awareness among our high school peers about the importance of voting and interacting with our government on all levels.”
The voter registration/pre-registration drives were conducted at Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Irvine high schools and at the Donald Dungan Library in Costa Mesa. Student members of SAC from Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Irvine and La Quinta high schools participated in the voter registration drives that resulted in over 50 students who confirmed that they were registering/pre-registering to vote in the upcoming or future elections.
Although some of the students were not going to be old enough to vote in the November election (not 18 years old on Nov. 5), many decided to pre-register to vote in upcoming elections as a way to become involved in the election process.
Kawaguchi stated that it was uplifting to see her fellow students take an interest in the voter registration process and she was excited to observe that her peers “are clearly determined to make an impact in their local and greater communities by participating in the election process.”
