“School Lunch of Ashiya City” will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Japan House Los Angeles, 6801 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, as part of its Movie & Bites series.
Learn about Japan’s school lunch program that provides students with high quality, nutritionally balanced meal and integrating food education. “School Lunch of Ashiya City” showcases the nostalgic role food plays in childhood memories, and the deep significance of school lunch, known as kyushokuin Japan.
The kyushokuprogram was established in the 1950s to foster children’s nutrition in post-war era and has evolved to create an immersive learning experience where children develop lifelong relationship with food, health and sustainability. The students learn to make informed dietary choices, appreciate seasonal ingredients, and understand their connection to nature and food producers.
Learn more about the history and cultural significance of ‘kyushokuand get a taste of it yourself to see what makes Japanese school lunches so special. All guests will also get to take home a special goodie-bag of Kewpie mayonnaise, Kewpie salad dressing and Yakult probiotic drink to create your own nutritional lunches for yourself and your family.
