The Los Angeles and Film Series presents “The Crimson Kimono” (1959) on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Choi Auditorium on the Occidental College campus, 1600 Campus Rd., Los Angeles.
Los Angeles and Film is a series of four film screenings that showcase the vibrant and diverse L.A. cultural landscape. This series was curated by Prof. John Trafton and features guest speakers from the Oxy community and from the Los Angeles film and arts community.
Set in Little Tokyo, Samuel Fuller’s L.A. film noir starring James Shigeta is a rare example of progressive-minded depictions of racial relations and portrayals of an Asian American lead character during this period of film history. This event is moderated by Professor Vivian Lin and will also feature two short films from Visual Communications on life and culture in Little Tokyo.
With generous support from Ronald R. and Susan C. Hahn ’66 ’65.
